A New Challenge

Well, it's time for me to play with some "real and serious" golfers tommorow and I can't wait! I am playing with another club that has some more serious players and the competition will be steeper and more challenging. Once again, however, the weather will be cooler than what I like to play in and I will probably have to play in more clothes than I like, which will add more to the challenge!

Since this is my club's monthly tournament, I will also, once again, be playing on an unfamiliar tract -- but so will everyone else!

This will be an excellent warm up for the tournament season! Let's see what happens!

Stay tuned!

The Review

Well, the reviews aren't rave, but encouraging. As previously mentioned, I took my practice to the course today during a play date with one of golf clubs I belong to. While a score of 93 shot on an unfamiliar course is not rave, it is encouraging due to the fact that it was cold, drizzly and it included a score of 10 on a Par 5 hole.

Another deciding factor is the mental aspect of your game in relation to your playing partners. My foursome consisted of myself, two veteran (non-practicing) players and a fairly new player. While golf is (and/or) should be an individual game, sometimes the woes of your partners can affect your game. During the latter part of our round, my two veteran (non-practicing) players started having increasing difficulty with their shot making and instead of trying to improve their play, they just refused to finish the hole. While I try to adhere to the notion that golf is an individual game between the player and the course only, it upsets me when players don't try and just give up. I'm sure a few of my wayward strokes can be attributed to the fact that I was mad at their lack of commitment.

All in all, I was satisfied with my play and looking forward to the serious competition in April. It looks like the practice transferred to the course -- for now! Back to the range!

Showtime!

Well, it's the night before I get to put my practice to the test! My golf club is playing tommorrow at a new tract and hopefully I can take my practice to the course. I'm feeling pretty confident -- not cocky, mind you--and think I'll be able to make a decent showing. Even though this is just our monthly play date, this will be good practice for the first big tournament of the year in April.

I'll be playing with some other women--not the handicap "sharks" I described in my last post--but opponents nonetheless, so I will try to bring out my "A" game.

I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready! Don't I sound confident?! Wish me luck!

Details at 11!

Tigr(ess) On the Prowl

It's the weekend and this tigress is ready to hit the links yet once again! While still being a part of the working class, (fortunately these days!) I am regulated to only being a weekend golfer. Nonetheless, I watch The Golf Channel everyday, subscribe to and read some of the monthly golf publications and get in some practice after work every week.

Since none of the clubs I belong to are playing this weekend, I am looking forward to getting in some live on-the-course practice in an effort to see if I can transfer what I practiced to the course. With the tournament season fastly approaching, I need to hone in some skills to beat some of the lady sharks I'll be playing against. You know the kind that pad their handicap to the high double digits and then shoot 80 in tournament!

Anyway, I'm off to play and hopefully keep it in play!

In Like a Tiger, Out Like a Lamb?

Is this going to be the mantra of Tiger Woods? I was so excited to see him coming back to the PGA Tour, but he was out too soon. He truly came in on Day One of the WGC Accenture Match Play like a Tiger, but the next day he went out like a lamb. Maybe he got a little ahead of himself and started feeling (and maybe playing) a little too cocky.

The first day back he played with caution. Not swinging too hard and trying to feel out the reconstructed knee . . . and it worked! Started the round with a birdie, then eagle and consistent play throughout the whole round. Result - winner, winner, chicken dinner!

The second day, he started trying to swing harder. Result - a few wild swings, out of bounds, a few bogies, missed putts and out of the tournament.

Hopefully, he will analyze his play during his respite and come back and play smarter the next time. Maybe he needs to remember what all us amateurs try to do . . . Keep it in play!
